Sports Performance Services

Supporting sporting organisations to help them attain their goals with programme design, innovation and advice.

The Academy South Island provides services to over 25 different codes, 21 of them performance sports identified by SPARC: athletics, badminton, basketball, bowls, cricket, cycling, equestrian, golf (men and women), hockey, paralympics, rowing, rugby league, rugby union, shooting, softball, squash, swimming, triathlon, yachting.

Among the other sports we assist are: motor sport, soccer, skiing, skeleton, snow boarding, curling and synchronised swimming.

Our main services include direct involvement with training and pre-competition camps for national sports bodies, their teams and selected individuals with potential. Regular camps include those for national Paralympic teams, New Zealand Triathlon squads, the Winter Olympic programme squad, the 2006 Winter Olympic curling team, the Black Sticks hockey team and pre-test camps for the Silver Ferns. We also assist with many regional camps and teams.

Our mobile unit is an important part of this form of preparation. Only the second of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, it's a laboratory, testing, analysis and service centre all in one and vital for assisting individual athletes, teams and coaches. The mobile unit also provides high-tech support at major events, the 2003 World Triathlon Championships is just one example.

Among the core services the academy provides in the South Island are those from the full range of providers in the medical and performance fields: sports medicine, psychology and science, along with, optometry, podiatry, injury prevention and rehabilitation, bio-mechanics and nutrition.
